Patrick Mahomes Lays Down the Law: Rees-Zammit Must Hurry in Chiefs’ Three-Peat Bid

Since joining the Chiefs earlier this year, Louis Rees-Zammit has impressed the coaching staff and quarterback Patrick Mahomes with blistering pace and agility.

Louis Rees Zammit is part of the latest batch of players who joined the NFL through the International Player Pathway system. It provided athletes like Eagles OT Jordan Mailata in the past.

Rees-Zammit, 23, has played rugby since he was 12 years old and made the switch to football earlier this year. According to quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have plans to use him mostly on the special teams as a punt return specialist and even as a running back after he showed tremendous agility during rookie camp.

While Rees-Zammit has the talent to cut it in the NFL, he has to put in the extra work because the players around him have been playing football ever since they were kids. So, even after outdoor practice, the Welshman keeps grinding at home, learning the playbook until falling asleep.

Before even thinking about putting on the Chiefs jersey, Rees-Zammit has to prioritize getting on the team. He isn’t the only one fighting for a place.

The running back room is loaded with players like Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and Deneric Prince. So, he must impress the coaches at the camp and during the pre-season.

He has support from Mahomes, who praised Zammit’s quick feet and athleticism.

Rees-Zammit became a household name after signing with the Chiefs. In June, he attended Taylor Swift’s concert with his brother in Wales, marking himself as a Swiftie.
